The Spanish spring is finally upon us and the almond and cherry trees are blossoming! This spectacular honey-scented force of nature only lasts a few weeks, but don’t worry, you don’t have to hurriedly plan a trip out to Andalusia – you can see it right here in Madrid. Here are three super central places to find them.
PARQUE DEL RETIRO
CALLE MIGUEL SERVET (LAVAPIÉS)
Cherry blossom trees arch over Lavapiés’s most sun-drenched street, which is also known for its colourful corralas and relaxed middle-eastern restaurant terraces. Our favourite eatery on this street is Leyali – a fantastic Iraqi with the best falafel in Madrid.
ESTA ES UNA PLAZA (LAVAPIÉS)
This beautiful space started off as a guerilla garden, but became an official community space in 2008. It’s been growing ever since and is used by the local community for picnics, workshops or just a spot of sunbathing. All plants and trees are very young, but every time we go back, we’re always amazed by how much they’ve grown – especially the cherry trees.
