The Spanish spring is finally upon us and the almond and cherry trees are blossoming! This spectacular honey-scented force of nature only lasts a few weeks, but don’t worry, you don’t have to hurriedly plan a trip out to Andalusia – you can see it right here in Madrid. Here are six places to find them…
RETIRO PARK
PARQUE QUINTA DE LOS MOLINOS (QUINTANA)
The arched branches of almond and cherry trees feel like they extend to the edge of the universe. It’s a beautiful scene well worth the metro ride, which will also drop you off in a pleasant neighbourhood with as many no-frills bars as there are blossoming trees.

CALLE MIGUEL SERVET (LAVAPIÉS)

Cherry blossom trees arch over Lavapiés’s most sun-drenched street, which is also known for its colourful corralas and relaxed middle-eastern restaurant terraces.
ESTA ES UNA PLAZA (LAVAPIÉS)
This beautiful space started off as a guerilla garden, but became an official community space in 2008. It’s been growing ever since and is used by the local community for picnics, workshops or just a spot of sunbathing. All plants and trees are very young, but every time we go back, we’re always amazed by how much they’ve grown – especially the cherry trees.
PARQUE CASINO DE LA REINA
I didn’t think it was possible for this discreet park bar/restaurant to get anymore beautiful, then the cherry tree that normally shades the terrace blossomed…

PARQUE DEL OESTE
In between all those beautiful blooms, keep an eye out for the fortifications from the Western Front of the Spanish Civil War (find my map of Madrid’s unmarked bunkers here).
Camera loaded and ready? Go get those beautiful blossom shots!
Excellent photos! Especially love the close ups of calle Miguel Servet and Esta es una Plaza.
Thanks Lucy!?
You can spot them in Parque Oeste as well.
